Peanut Lacrosse Ball – A Game Changer for Back Relief
Between designing programs, studying, coaching online clients, and occasionally carrying heavy things in ways I should know better, my back sometimes gives me trouble. While mobility work, strengthening exercises, and passive treatments like massage therapy are essential, this little tool has been an absolute game-changer.
I use a peanut lacrosse ball to glide along my spine, providing much-needed relief. The design allows for targeted pressure on the muscles surrounding the spine without putting direct pressure on the vertebrae. This is key because when the muscles around the spine become tight, they can compress the nerves that exit the vertebrae—our body’s main highway for nerve signaling. This compression can disrupt normal nerve function, leading to pain, tingling, numbness, or even muscle weakness. These sensations can feel unsettling, but addressing muscle tightness through tools like this can help alleviate pressure on the nerves and restore proper function. Of course, relieving back discomfort goes beyond quick fixes—it’s important to understand the root cause of your tension in the first place.

💡 Pro Tip: This shouldn't be expensive—don’t get sucked into overpriced options. While you're at it, consider picking up a regular lacrosse ball as well… but I’ll cover that in another post!
